Help - Scan Locations E-mail

Scan locations may not be 100% accurate. Mobile phones connect to the internet in different ways and have different capabilities. This means that some of the pinpointed locations shown on the Google map may not be entirely accurate.  The pictures show how accurate the Google map locations will be depending on what method the mobile phone connects to the QRMe service. The two blue points show where the scan took place and where the scan may be reported as taking place.

A mobile phone will generally connect to the internet in one of three ways :-

1. WiFi - Normal Wi-Fi conection. via a home router that has wiFi enabled or a via local WiFi HotSpot

The Location of the scan on the Google map will be set to the nearest local telephone exchange (based on IP address)

2. GPRS - The Mobile phone General Packet Radio Sevice

Connection is made via the mobile service provider

The Location of the scan on the Google map will be set to the mobile operators main Internet connection point in the country (based on IP address)

3. 3G - 3rd generation network

Connection is made via the mobile service provider

The Location of the scan on the Google map will be set to the mobile operators main Internet connection point in the country (based on IP address)

Newer phones and GPS

Newer mobile phones which have GPS capabilities can pinpoint the phones location to within about 15 meters but may not offer the latitude and longitude coordinates to the web server. QRMe currenty base all Google map plots on the mobile devices IP address and plan to look at using the latitude / longitude coordinates if the mobile supplies them.
